Google search redirect is a browser hijacker virus that redirects your browser searches to malicious webpages that can harm your computer. Technically, Google redirect symptom is not a virus, but a computer rootkit. Rootkit is a malicious software that hides itself and cannot be detected from common antivirus or antimalware programs. When your computer is infected with Google redirect virus, your Windows update service and your antivirus program are disabled and your computer speed is slowed down due to malicious processes running on the computer background. Google redirect virus-rootkit is a dangerous infection and you must clean your computer ASAP.
“Google search redirect” was most probably installed on your computer without your knowledge. This kind of browser hijacker software is designed to make money by displaying advertisements from unknown publishers.
First of all, download and run Kaspersky’s TDSSKiller Anti-rootkit utility. If TDDSSKiller utility does not run, you have to rename it to something else (e.g. explore.exe). Then click on “Start Scan” button and wait until the scan is completed. Finally choose “Cure” to remove the infections found and restart your computer.
Then download and run RogueKiller. Press the “Scan” button and let the program scan and find malicious entries and files. When the scan is completed, press the “Delete” button. Finally, press (in sequence) the “Fix Host”, “Fix Proxy” and “Fix DNS” buttons to fix your network search settings. Restart your computer.
We will need a couple of free excellent software tools to completely clean the computer. First download “AdwCleaner” utility. After you download it, close all open programs and run AdwCleaner. At the main window, press the “Scan” button. Wait until the scan is completed, review its findings and press the “Clean” button to remove all the entries it has found.
One final step. Download and install “Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free“. (Beware: at the last screen of installation, uncheck the box next to “Enable free Trial of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware PRO” in order to use the free version of this GREAT software). Run it and go to the “Scanner” tab and click “Quick Scan” and wait until this process is finished. Click the “Show Results” button and review its findings and then select all of them (right click to “Select All” of them). Click the “Remove Selected” button.
