How to reinstall default apps in Windows 10, 8.1 & 8

In a previous tutorial I mentioned the way to uninstall the default apps in Windows 10, 8.1 or 8. Keep in mind that when you uninstall an app from Windows 10 or 8, in fact you un-register the app from the user(s). This means that you make the app unavailable to the user(s), but all the installation files of this app, are still remain on your computer and you can use them at in any time, if you want to reinstall the app on the future.

In this tutorial I ‘ll show to you how you can reinstall (re-register) a particular default app, or all the default preinstalled (provisioned) apps on your Windows 10, 8 & 8.1 OS.

 

How to reinstall default (provisioned) apps in Windows 10, 8.1 & 8 OS.

Note: If you have already removed any of the default apps and their installation files by following the PART C in this tutorial, then the only way to reinstall the removed default apps, is to download them from Windows Store or to perform a Windows repair upgrade.

1. To reinstall (re-register) apps in Windows 10 & 8 OS, first open PowerShell with administrator rights. To do that:

1. At Cortana‘s search box, type powershell

2. Right click on Windows PowerShell result and select Run as administrator.

2. Now follow the corresponding instructions below, according the action you want to perform:

:

A. To reinstall All default apps to All users in Windows 10,8.1 & 8, give this command:

  • Get-AppxPackage -Allusers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -register “$($_.InstallLocation)\appxmanifest.xml” -DisableDevelopmentMode}

 

B. To reinstall All default apps to the Current user only in Windows 10,8.1 & 8 OS, give this command:

  • Get-AppxPackage | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -register “$($_.InstallLocation)\appxmanifest.xml” -DisableDevelopmentMode

 

C. To reinstall a Particular app to the Current user only in Windows 10,8.1 & 8 OS, perform the following actions:

1. Give this command to get a a list of all available installed packages:

  • Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers | Select Name, PackageFullName

2. Replace the “PackageFullName” value at the following command, with the “PackageFullName” of the app that you want to reinstall:

  • Add-AppxPackage -register “C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\PackageFullName\appxmanifest.xml” -DisableDevelopmentMode

e.g. The command to reinstall Maps, is:

Add-AppxPackage -register “C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.WindowsMaps_4.1601.10150.0_x86__8wekyb3d8bbwe\appxmanifest.xml” –DisableDevelopmentMode
