The easiest way is to get an external mouse and apply the instructions.

For all the research I've done, this is the only one that got he problem fixed. Windows 10 switched from using Synaptics interface to it's own settings, and now Disable Touchpad setting is there.

Spent a couple of hours trying to figure out this problem, and finally landed on this article. This was extremely helpful, especially the easy link to download the driver needed. Thank you! I can now disable my touchpad as needed. My touchpad right click key is stuck in the depressed position, and I seem to be unable to fix it. It was making my laptop nearly unusable, and the simple solution would have been to disable the touchpad. Not so simple when that option isn't there! But now, I've been able to disable it and carry on with my work. Again, thanks!

I recently attached a wacom tablet to windows 10. I also did a Windows update.

I'm not sure if either/both/neither caused the issue, but suddenly the trackpad was always on despite my USB mouse connected.

I checked the settings and the "Disable Trackpad…" option was missing. I added the drivers per this blog, and restarted windows. Now the option is there again and it was automatically set to disable per my desire. Thanks!

Your Method 2 was the only one that enabled my Windows 10 to Disable the touchpad.

Very helpful information, especially the download link for the Synaptics driver. Even though the driver came from Lenovo, it worked in a Sony Vaio laptop (in which Win 10 was saying the Synaptics driver was up to date and offered no updating for it).

    THANK YOU!
