Googled 'How to remove Default-Search.net'. Could not find 'Linkey' or 'Settings Manager' in Programs and Features but it kept coming up in Internet Explorer. I installed Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and ran as above. 60 detected objects out of 283387 scanned in 42 minutes. (I thought computer was virus-free!) Home Page now seems back to Google. Many thanks.

Could only find Settings Manager installed but uninstalled it successfully. After running AdwCleaner, the Remove button wasn't greyed out anymore under Add-on tools and Search providers so I could remove it. Runned Malwarebytes Anti-Malware after but it did not detect anything else.

Thank you your the step by step helped plenty, especially with Firefox, but I could not seem to remove the default-search.net from Explorer….so I downloaded the Malwarebytes Antimalware software and it detected 385 objects which I then quarantined.

For mozilla I also typed in "linkey" after going to about:config and selected reset on that too. I also could not find anything called "settings manager". Hopefully all of the above does the trick for me as I've been dealing with this for over a year now. I haven't done the about:config steps before though.
